Aix-en-Provence, France, 26-27 May 2024
The 2024 BEG Annual Conference will take place in Aix-en-Provence, France.
At the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, which rises to 1,011 metres, Aix-en-Provence was the capital of Provence in the fifteenth century and the home of Paul Cézanne.

We write now to give you advance notice of the conference, in the hope that you will be encouraged to make your travel and accommodation arrangements early.
The conference will take place on Sunday 26th May 2024 to Monday morning 27th May 2024 and will once again be sponsored by AlixPartners for which the Bar European Group is very grateful.
As usual, there will be a conference dinner for delegates and accompanying persons – details to be confirmed together with an accompanying persons excursion on Sunday 26th May.
The conference venue and hotel will be the Grand Hotel Roi Rene Grand Hotel Roi René Aix en Provence – MGallery Collection – Accor Live Limitless – ALL
Special conference rates have been negotiated – €195 for a single room or €205 for a double room. The Bar European Group has reserved 35 rooms which can be booked on a first come first served basis. Please complete the attached booking form and send it direct to the hotel to Martha Maillet – direct email H1169-RE1@accor.com
The nearest airport is Marseille (13 miles from Aix) from all major UK airports. Depending on numbers, we will seek to organise one or more transfers from the airport in due course. Aix is also accessible for those that wish to travel by train (journey time from London approximately 7.5 hours travelling from St Pancras via Lille to Aix).
BEG Scholarships – Peter Duffy and John & Sophie Laws Scholarships
The Bar European Group offers a number of fully paid scholarships (usually a minimum of six) for students and pupils wishing to come to the conference. The scholarships are funded in the main by several Chambers whose members practise EU law. As ever we are extremely grateful for their continued support.
Applicants must be current BPTC students or pupils with an interest in EU Law, or past BPTC students who have been accepted for pupillage beginning in 2024. The scholarships are usually awarded to candidates in whose future practice EU law is likely to play a prominent role. Scholars will have travel, accommodation and conference fees paid for them. In return they will also publish a conference report for the BEG website and join BEG.
Applications should be sent by email to Victoria Wakefield KC at victoria.wakefield@brickcourt.co.uk marked ‘BEG scholarship’, with a CV (no more than 1 page of A4) together with a short note setting out why the applicant is suitable for this award. Please note the closing date of 10 February 2024.
We very much hope you will be able to join us for another enjoyable BEG weekend.
With best wishes,
Jessica Simor KC
