BEG Annual Conference 2026

Barcelona, Spain, 24 – 25 May 2026

The 2026 BEG Annual Conference will take place in Barcelona, Spain.

Barcelona is a vibrant Mediterranean city known for its rich history, iconic architecture, and dynamic cultural scene. It is the capital of Catalonia and Spain’s second-largest city. It is also the home of Gaudi’s famous Sagrada Família – an iconic basilica, renowned for its intricate architecture, which is finally due to be completed in 2026 (hopefully in time for our visit!)

The conference will take place on Sunday 24 May and on Monday morning 25 May 2026. It will once again be sponsored by AlixPartners for which the Bar European Group is very grateful.

As usual, there will be a conference dinner for delegates and accompanying persons on the Sunday night, together with an accompany persons itinerary – details to follow.

There will be a post conference lunch on Monday 25 May which will be held at the conference hotel and is included in the conference fee for those attending the conference. Lunch will be offered to accompanying persons for an additional cost (again, details to follow) and must be booked in advance.

Registration forms for both the conference and the optional social activities will be sent out in
due course.

The conference venue and hotel will be The Hoxton Hotel located in the Poblenou area of
Barcelona, the site of the Olympic Village for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Special conference rates have been negotiated for the nights of 23 and 24 May – €260 for a
single room and €275 for a double room. The Bar European Group has reserved 40 rooms
which can be booked on a first come first served basis. Please note that the hotel will initially
hold the 40 rooms until 23rd January 2026 and will then release 50% of the rooms (although
they have agreed to offer the conference rate on any rooms that are booked outside the link
until 23rd March 2026, depending on availability). To book please follow this link.

The link automatically comes up with the double room option so if you wish to book a single
room, please click in the top left-hand corner and change the number of guests to 1. If you
wish to extend your stay, please email the hotel at groups.poblenou@thehox.com.

The John and Sophie Laws Scholarships and Peter Duffy Scholarship

The Bar European Group offers a number of fully paid scholarships (usually a minimum of
six) for students and pupils wishing to come to the Barcelona conference. The scholarships
are funded in the main by several Chambers whose members practise EU law. As ever we are
extremely grateful for their continued support.

Applicants must be current BPTC students or pupils with an interest in EU Law, or past
BPTC students who have been accepted for pupillage beginning in 2026. The scholarships are
usually awarded to candidates in whose future practice EU law is likely to play a prominent
role. Scholars will have travel, accommodation and conference fees paid for them. In return
they will also publish a conference report in the online journal of The European Advocate and
join BEG.

Applications should be sent by email to Rupert Paines at Rupert.Paines@11kbw.com
marked ‘BEG scholarship‘, with a CV (no more than 1 page of A4) together with a short note
setting out why the applicant is suitable for this award. Please note the closing date of Friday
16 January 2026
.

Travel

Barcelona can be reached by both train and plane. Direct trains from Paris Gare de Lyon to
Barcelona take approximately 6 hours. There are many airlines that fly to Barcelona’s Josep
Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport which is approximately 20km from the hotel.

We very much hope you will be able to join us for another enjoyable BEG weekend.

With best wishes,
